I have been using two websites nowdays to read webcomics. One of them is Tapastic the other one is MangaMagazine. Today I would like to introduce them to you, because they are good places to share your own comic or read the series of others.
Both sites have social media features: you can interact with other readers or the artists themselves. You can follow them and their work, like them and so on. They are both good places to find some online comics to read. These two sites have a common goal: to bring you webcomics, yet they are very different from each other. Continue reading
There was no update last week and this week. I am sorry about it. I have been busy with my other projects and neglected the comic project almost completely. I am not happy with this, I feel like I could have done more regarding my comic. Half of the story plot is done now, which is good but the other half is very unclear at the moment.
I will return with updates next Saturday. I have been thinking about posting other articles not just the assignments. This is only an idea and it depends on how I progress with some of my other stuffs. At the moment I am working as a freelance artist and I also have a small pin button making business. Both of them are small and needs lots of work to run them. As I don’t have a regular job everything depends on me from promotion to finding customers. In the last weeks I have spent more time on these. I won’t change this – they should be done – instead I will change how I focus on things.
It does matter a lot what you focus on at a time and how much you really focuing on it. Have you ever noticed that when you are working on something all kind of other stuffs are popping up in your mind? You sit down to learn then suddenly you feel like you should watch a video about gardening on YouTube or there are unread mails that you should check. If you let your mind wander to these areas you might lose lots of time and your progress will slow down a lot. I think this is a common thing we face daily. I have faced it too and I think this causes many problems at the moment. So for next week my rule is: I will do 2-3 things from my todo list daily, and I will try to do it as fast as I can, this will be a fun challenge (I like to measure the time of given tasks).
Last week I have been working more on the characters for my story. I have kept in mind how to create a believable character while I worked on them. My goal was to fill out the character sheet for two characters. I did that, altough this time I have not made any sketches of them. Continue reading
Our next goal is putting together the plot of the story. The plot is a serie of events, this is what moves a story and thus it is very-very important. I think if you have this you can’t go wrong with your story later. You will know if you like the story or not and you can adjust it easily to create the story you want. Continue reading
I have been thinking a lot about the next step and I have realised that I can’t go further in the story until I have more characters. So the next week we will continue the character creation. You can create one or more characters, as you find more convenient. I would like to create three characters and what I expect as a result is that I will see the beginning of the story more clearly. At the moment the middle of my story has more characters and it is more defined than the beginning. I want to change this by working on characters from the beginning of the story. Continue reading
Last week’s assignment was creating two main characters for the story and filling out the Character Sheet for them. I have started with my protagonist. Continue reading
The next small step in creating our comic would be working on the characters. With this assignment I would like to create two characters for the story: the protagonist and the antagonist (or at least two main characters). I will do this assignment with the other characters too in the following weeks until I have all of them ready. Continue reading
In the last weeks I have been thinking a lot about my story. I mostly did this right before sleeping. I have not spent time on the comic during the day so I felt guilty about it later those days and sarted to think on it right before sleeping. Continue reading
Every story has an idea behind it. That idea gives meaning to the story and is developed into the plot which is the basic structure of the story. Without an idea or plot your story will be empty and meaningless.
The next steps we will take go hand in hand so the order I will go might not be the order you will choose. It is okay, start with whichever way you like. In the end you will jump from one to the other and back again, it is a mixed process: coming up with an idea, creating the characters and the world, finding out the goals of your characters, the conflicts and putting everything together to get the plot and from that the story itself. This is something you almost do at the same time. Continue reading
I wrote this article last Friday, just before finishing the genre one. So everything I will write here happaned last week. Here is the story: Continue reading
